Insufficient injector opening configuration misinterpreted as "number of bins" issue"

GenBoard/Manual/Config/InjectorOpening

We made a lot of progress with the injector opening configuration today and the engine runs better and feels stronger on low load than with the Haltech F3, much due to full ignition control and idle control.

With injopen=10 and injocfuel=25 (both decimal values from MegaTune) the work of mapping the engine became very easy as it started to respond as expected to all changes, where it previously behaved randomly. As we have understood it, the Genboard pulse-width calculation could not compensate for pressure and rpm properly when these two values were not set close to "the truth". Some experimentation is required to get a better grip on the method of finding these values by varying them and monitoring lambda and pulse-width. At least we have good ball-park values now, we hope. It will be interesting to swap in the 1600 cc injectors (900 cc now) and see if the values require changing much or if req_fuel is sufficient.

We're now convinced that it's possible to tune this powerful engine with 8x8 configurable bins. To the owner of the PV it still feels scary with so few pressure bins considering that his goal for this summer is 2 bar boost, we hope that the lambda table can help out in this respect to cool the charge, instead of wasting pressure bins in the VE table for that.

When I come back from a short vacation on 2005-05-12 I will present to you more details on the configuration.

About me

I am the main site administrator of [Sävar Turbo Site] and I have in recent years become more and more interested in combustion engines and cars in general. I have a computer geek background but mechanics always intrigued me - not only electronic gadgets.

I have several cars but my two main projects are :

The Volvo is long term, my focus is currently on the BMW. I plan to replace the Motronic ECU of the 325iX completely.
