I'm using a BMW M20 6 cylinder engine simular to MembersPage/GergelyLezsak

It uses the following sensors and injectors:

The car is running now and I've driven it around the block so it's time for some tuning. But I need to get my laptop usb/serial adapter to work. I ordered one from the web-shop. Something goes wrong installing the right drivers.

But when restart the computer and connect the adapter. Windows comes up with the message that it has found new hardware and it opens the new found hardware wizard. It says the wizard will help me install the software for my USB-Serial Controller. And it asks if I have a CD with the adapter. So I insert the cd and choose the "Install the software automatically" button. Then I get the error that the hardware is not installed because the wizard can't find the necessary software. This results in a not working adapter cable so I go back and choos manual installation. Here I can choose where the wizard has to look and I select the CD. This doesn't work because there's only a setup on the cd and not a driver. The other option is I can choose the driver to install and the wizard doesn't have to search. Then I get a list of all common hardware types and I should be able to choose the driver but there are nu drivers to choose from.

From here I don't know what to do anymore. It says the driver is installed but it's not linked to the adapter from what I understand. If I choose to uninstall and reinstall the driver notting changes.

I have windows XP server pack 2 installed if that matters anyhow.

So the pl2303 driver doesn't get installed properly.

When I let windows search for the right drivers, it doesn't find any.

Does anybody know what to do??

Did you get a CD with the USB-RS232 adapter ? The driver on the CD might not be as new as can be downloaded from web (any pl2303 driver should do, the later the better), but it should also work.

It's running better and better now. I actually drove a few times around the block. Primepulse is set to zero and all enrichments are still down to zero. I'm leaving for holiday soon so I won't have any time to work on the car the next 2 weeks. After the holiday I'll try to get the VE and ignition tabels and get the enrichments working.

Does someone have any pointers where to look at when I work on the maps? I have some basic knowledge but don't have any experience with setting up maps.

I also need to get my laptop working with the usb adapter cable. I'm still running into trouble but I've contacted my computer guy to solve this problem. Hopefully I'll tackle the problem before I get back.

Ps. Thanks for the comments Marcel. Keep them comming I'm learning a lot! So hopefully we can team up in the future to realise vapourised propane gas injection with VEMS.

My engine still seems to flood at only 2 ms. I really don't know what can cause this. Check my[config and tables]. But I've checked ALS and set all the enrichments to zero. Please help me out on this one. Engine fires at the priming pulse then dies and seems to be flooded.

Since you've got the car running, I presume this is resolved...

Well done on getting it going - it's the most difficult (and stressfull) bit.

The priming pulse happened when you first turned the key on, and the cranking pulse was what happend during starting. I have a 0.0ms prime pulse and the car runs fine. (When warm, idle pulsewidth is 1.35ms for a 5 litre v8 with 600cc highZ injectors.)

The "afterstart enrichment" parameter adds additional fuel to the warmup table enrichments (at the first few hundred cam revolutions).

Trying to figure out the primary triggger settings. This brings some questions along.

Tooth numbering starts at 0, with 0 being the first tooth after the missing ones.

Based on this my primary trigger settings in decimal should be:
