This car is a 4wd Mazda 323. It is stripped with a cage, 2 seats, steering wheel, shifter, pedals and not much else.

This year the powerplant was upgraded from a stock B6T to a BPC8 (323GT-R engine). The engine has an equal length manifold with a Garrett GT2861RS turbo.

MembersPage/MichaelRichards/Projects/TonyGTX/Wiring has details on how the wiring is done.

Problems...

The engine was installed and wired. It started without much trouble and the timing was checked. Idle is at 12 degrees. Some basic runs were completed to ensure the fueling was close.

We transported the car to the dyno and I attempted to tune it. The car made a dismal 88hp at the wheels and I'm unable to determine why.

- We checked the timing belt to ensure it had not skipped any teeth.

- Checked the compression. Although it was slightly lower than I expected at 135 +-2psi per cylinder it is still within manufacturer specs.

- The air/fuel ratio is 11.5 under boost.

- boost pressure was 160kpa measured at the manifold.

- At that point timing was betwen 20-25 degrees.

- fuel was 8% oxygenated unleaded 114 octane race fuel

- we did try 94 octane unleaded pump gas with no change in power output.

In my experience the engine should have produced far more power than that.

I tried setting the timing at 0 degrees and verifying with a timing light to ensure it was responding. I suspect the problem lies in timing but am not keen on pushing it too much.
