My project car is Ford Escort Mk4 -87

Plans to season 2011: Install VEMS and throttle bodies

On July 2010 I got it to the dragstrip and results are: ET 14,32 s and speed 158,73 km/h

On August 2010 we got it to the dyno and results are: 129,9 Kw and 231,3 Nm.

- Ford Escort Cosworth T25 fuel pressure regulator (3,5bar)

- Ford Escort RS2000 ECU (EEC-IV) with Collins chip and EDIS4 with dual coils

I build one VEMS project in 2008, but I sold it forward because I didn't have time to tune it. So it's time to try again!

VEMS external hardware

Injectors: Bosch 0 280 155 504 (~280cc/min@3,5bar?)

Coils: Ford dual coils

Coolant sensor: maybe GM because resistance range is suitable and it's got correct thread

Intake air sensor: GM for same reason

Primary trigger: Ford VR sensor

Secondary trigger: Ford VR sensor, reading exhaust cam at cylinder 4 (I'm not sure do I use this at the beginning at all)

TPS: Keihin TPS (stock Suzuki GSXR1000 K2)

LCD: 20x4 black/green with inverted colors

Lambda: Bosch 057

Is this 30V Flyback done correctly?

And how about that 4+4 ignition setup. I use EC36 pins 34 and 36, other two IGBT-outputs are now shorted to GND and other 4 without IGBT:s are now connected to logic level.

Are these wires OK? Especially that 2nd VR from EC36-13 to 2nd LM1815. Have to add pull-up's to ch5/6/7 later.

Questions and answers

1. I want to be sure with primary trigger config. So, when using 100% same 36-1 triggering that Ford EDIS use, what are correct settings?

Trigger wheel is solid mounted to crankshaft and VR sensor is solid mounted to block.

Is it same as in this page http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=InputTrigger%2FMultitoothTriggerWheel ?

(TDC before trigger ~ 83 degrees)- note that TDC should be measured after tooth0 which comes after the long gap. Preferrably also strobed.

  1. TDC of cyl1 (and cyl4) comes
  2. 83 degrees after the point, when
  3. the first tooth after the missing tooth just passes the trigger (considering the rotational direction).
  4. that is 8 tooth and a little on the 36-1 wheel.
  5. we place trigger_tooth to 20 degrees (02 teeth)
  6. so 63 degrees remains for ign_tdcdelay
  7. so the sum is 83 degrees

Yes, the above is the recommended for 1.0.x firmware. Also works on 1.1.x, but often triggertooth=0 and TDC after trigger=83 is used on 1.1.x instead. (makes little difference, maybe in the position of staging injection injstart).

2. What best suitable firmware to my project? Just put latest version and that's it?

4cyl, 36-1 VR trigger, n/a ITB, wasted spark

latest (eg. 1.1.84) should be reasonable to try.
