How to join/list yourself as a member?
- Click into the Preferences page, fill your user name as MembersPage/FirstnameLastname and press Save. It will help RecentChanges show who the update came from - instead of an IP address. Use nickname if you insist, but 2 capital letters are a must. Please do this step after changing browser (eg. editing the site from another computer)
- Add yourself by editing this page: use "Edit this Document" link on page bottom, write the same MembersPage/FirstnameLastname as above. DO NOT DELETE the links to OTHER MEMBER's pages!. Feel free to add other pages about you, your car(s) or controlled subsystems, but make sure that pagename prefix matches MembersPage/FirstnameLastname/YourOtherPages
Use your pages and common pages for maximum benefit
- You are not restricted to your own pages: People are encouraged to ask questions on the relevant pages ( eg. look for flyback on SiteIndex when it's flyback related issue and just point to their own subpage (of the project's relevant subsystem) for reference if necessary. This way others might reuse your experience easily, without going through 100+ member-pages. Also, GenBoard/Manual writers merge the settled recommendations and findings into the manual. They can hardly do this when the problem gets discussed on a memberpage. Naturally, when you get the answer, it is recommended to merge the interesting part to your project subpage (of the relevant subsystem).
- The project pages should be kept uptodate with known stuff, tested things, TODO-s, open questions etc... organized thematically into sections and not chronologically (according to date). Yes, delete any old stuff and answered questions from the project page: just keep the answer, fit it to the relevant section. Don't expect others to know the cylinder count and other details of KLX-DME16-8ZR engine. You can significantly decrease your chance to receive answers by neglecting a few basic details about your engine (eg. cylcount). Provide any trigger info if possible: eg. pictures and description of connectors and units, any measurement if you are just investigating the factory trigger.
- If you don't feel good about deleting old info, move them to a separate history page also under MembersPage/FirstnameLastname/... (anyone helping will avoid that page, as thematical organization is much more efficient to converge to a solution) Not too useful as history is available anyway. But in any case: don't let old, chronological info clutter up your uptodate project page!
- After you get the engine running, don't forget to update your page(s) to show this. Many users forget this step and leave their pages with the problems even after solved (resulting in many pages listing problems instead of the successes). Why care when the engine runs ? Please do.
