Introduction
I am planning to install VEMS on a Fiat/Lancia 5 cyl. 2l 20V engine. Since I have no previous experience with engine management the time frame for this project is pretty much unlimited.
Some data on the engine:
- 5 cylinder, 1998cc, 20V, turbocharged
- Firing order: 1-2-4-5-3
- OEM ECU is a Bosch Motronic 2.10 with a 58+2 (60-2) missing tooth trigger wheel.
- Stock injection timing sensor is a Hall effect sensor, reading off the exhaust camshaft.
- Coil-on-plug setup.
- Fiat VVT, simple variable valve timing system.
From what I can tell (which isn't alot) all sensors needed by VEMS is already there (except MAP sensor). Problem seems to be to figure out if they can be used. Almost all components are made by Bosch.
I have two sets of injectors, high impedance Bosch. Standard ones are rated at about 330cc/min@3 bar. The second set is rated at 384cc/min@3 bar.
Questionmarks so far is:
- How can I tell what sort of crank trigger sensor is used. The manual only states part no. which havn't helped me alot.
- If the OEM coil-on-plug setup can be used. I asume it can, but I am unsure on how to drive them. Is there a way to find out if they are "active" or not?
