A Toyota 2JZ engine using a V3.3 with VR/VR running 1.1.18 Firmware and Fero's config.

(Prefer 1.1.27 if it's a missingtooth setup)

Problem: No RPM when cranking, all other sensors work - P259 is working (voltage to LM1815 confirmed, and Fuel pump relay activating correctly).

Tests:

The VEMS loom is well earthed to the car body and I have tested with an extra earth strap piggybacked onto that as well.

All sensors with the exception of the coolant temp and cam trigger are connected.

The Injector and Ignition parts of the loom are totally unplugged.

Tried 2 crank triggers (1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE) Both the same. RESISTANCE ?

Crank trigger is now running with a shielded twincore wire and giving a good 0.9v signal at EC36 pin27.

I've recorded the crank trigger signal and it looks as I'd expect it to, peaking at 0.9v when cranked and dipping below 0v on a regular basis.

Both Megatune and Terminal (log file below) show no sign of any signal.

Even if I disable the filtering and set the teeth to 1 there is no input registered at all

I've tried 2 ECUs now, both the same.

Crank trigger signal wire to pin27 has now been swapped for the output from my laptop soundcard.

I’m playing the test trigger signal via a soundcard and can prove the signal is getting to pin 3 of the LM1815 chip, but have probed the output side and it registers nothing.

Input voltage measured at EC36 Pin27 and also a pickup point in the middle of the board that’s directly linked to pin 27 is around 0.95v AC

Input voltage measured at pin 3 (signal input) of the LM1815 is around 0.25v AC (and what DC bias ?

Voltage might not cross 0V. That is AC too low or DC too positive. You can try a 2k7 or similar (1k..10k) pulldown to GND.

Scoping the pins of the primary LM1815, we could see (sorry for the vagueness)

1 - wave signal

2 - 0

3 - wave signal

4 - lower voltage wave signal

5 - 0

6 - lower voltage wave signal

7 - higher voltage signal, on the scope it was all + of 0v

8-14 - all 0

I'd be interested to see if the ECUs work if we put them back on your testbed or if something's been blown that means the LM1815 will never spring into life.

It is rather unlikely to blow LM1815, signal bias issue is more likely if the signal amplitude is low. The external pulldown can help, or removing R30 (or using a higher value, like 47k). 18k was perfect for all VR we've seen so far.

I've got most kit handy now, so I'm happy to run whatever tests people would like.
