Electrolysis / Hydrolysis as applicable to the GoBox Project

Electrolysis and specifically in our case the electrolysis of water -> Hydrolysis refers to the electrochemical separation of H2O into Hydrogen and Oxygen (there may also be Ion combinations as products). To be able to separate the water needs to have charge carriers (ions). Water naturally does contain ions(the PH refers to the logarithmic representation of Ion density. Distilled water can still have a ph of 7), however sometimes it may be necessary to enrich its Ion concentration. There are several ways about that. I don't want to pretend that I have definite knowledge about it so please feel free to comment. I have the Doctor of electrochemistry Dr. Alejandro Martinez preparing some more definite material for our project. Books on electrochemistry describe the gradient of Ion concentration as it develops over time in a given distance from the electrolyzer plates. This is why we are planning forced water circulation.

Besides we will use any available calorific energy (oil cooling etc) to heat the water (http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/thermo/electrol.html).

Vacuum helps to increase the size of the bubble 'seeds' which can the rise to the surface quicker aiding extraction.

It is desirable to extract the Hydrogen relatively pure - having too much oxygen in the gas could result in explosion danger (Experimenters use Metal Wool (Aluminum) in pipes segments to prevent a potential explosion from spreading)

The Oxygen may be stored, to be injected with the water (may increase its ionization level) or combined into Ozone and equally administered with the water.

Be aware that leaving Hydrogen and Oxygen mixed in its natural (stoichiometric) mix is not advantageous for combustion. The Combustion speed is unusable high (instant implosion detonation). Witnessing such a detonation is very stressful for the ears (General shock danger)!

Hydrogen combustion must be moderated by introducing it with ambient air or by using Oxygen 'hidden' in water.

Factors To Utilize and Investigate

Vacuum Mode

In comparison with pressure mode it appears more logical that Gas Production/extraction is aided in a low pressure environment. The Motor already produces under pressure (suction) however if one wants to inject the Hydrogen the pumping and compression would have to be otherwise implemented.

Static and Dynamic Magnetic Fields

There is not much published about the influence of magnetic fields during electrolysis. Our setup will provide resources to control the Electrodynamics of the Hydrolysis. Observe the interesting effects of a Magnetic field on Electrolysis in this little Video Clip: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/GoBox/files/MagnetElectrolysisWMF.avi

Gas Separation

Electrolysis separates the gases by pulling the Molecule apart by force of an Electric Field. The fragments then exist in form of Ions. While it may not be desirable the Ionized (charged state) is then eliminated when the charged atoms get to the field producing electrolyzer plates (usually Stainless Steel). Hydrogen and Oxygen are thus carried to their respective plates. Hydrogen leave its electron behind in Ion form and as a single proton is therefore highly mobile it will receive a new electron at the negative plate and recombine to H2. Oxygen had taken the extra electrons and carries them the positive plate. Here we may want to investigate the need to change polarity from time to time to prevent unbalanced corrosion. It may be necessary to use a membrane to keep the gases produced at the plates separate somehow cause 'Information and Control' is equal to energy sometimes!

Frequency and Ion Density Gradients

There is an effect where the plates effectively end up isolated (temporarily) a form of Vapor locked form too much gas. This is part of the reason why we use a Frequency and PWM to drive the plates. We are also planning to experiment with different phase relations between the applications of electrostatic and Electromagnetic Fields.

It is necessary to visualize how Magnetic Field may come into play. Moving Charges produce a magnetic field or an oncoming (changing) magnetic field accelerates charges. Experiments have to show if there are certain Frequencies and Phase relations that help to extract optimal amounts of gas (we are working on understanding it well enough to deliver formulas). I have seen claims that even imply that this way Hydrogen (and maybe Oxygen) can be prevented from recombining. If that was the case the Implosion equation would be 2H + O => H20 which would be a 3 to 1 reduction of molarity (see GoBox/WaterCar Tech Page).

Ion Separation in Gases could be considered a type of electrolysis too.

This will be interesting to explore in the exhaust gases because temperature helps the process.

A potential exists to harvest contamination or natural Air bound Ions these have potentially higher value than 'wholesome' air.
