Warning light

Warning light, sometimes called Check Engine Light (CEL) has the purpose of signaling several potential warning conditions to the user with the aim of informing the user and protecting the engine from damage.

Warning light can be in several modes, when multiple conditions are active at the same time, the highest takes precedence.

Warning modes appearing in order of priority:

  • iButton anti-theft armed/disarmed indicator when iButton anti-theft is enabled (see ecu calibrations / safety mode) and the correct iButton has not yet been recognized the warning light will blink slowly (around 2Hz frequency) indicating that security is still active. Once the correct iButton is recognized the armed/disarmed indicator is disabled which allows the next condition to take precedence.

  • Engine overheated warning when engine coolant temperature is higher than warning coolant temperature setting, the check engine light will light continuously (only when the condition remains valid).

  • Trigger error warning when a trigger error condition is present and signaling of this error is enabled with trigger error activate warning light setting, each trigger error will light up warning light for 1.5 seconds

  • Electronic throttle control signal mismatch error (either tps or pps) when the ETC control code error counter has seen a signal mismatch more than 10 times it triggers warning light continuously, if the error persists and counter runs up more, eventually ETC control will be shutdown.

  • Generic check engine light this function will light up CEL before cranking, if rpm goes above cranking threshold CEL will turn of. Additionally this function informs the user of FLOOD_CLEAR condition (tps above 70% during cranking shuts of injectors to allow to clear flooded engine) and MAP signal unexpectedly low value (below 80kpa) by flashing warning light fast (5Hz).

  • Exhaust gas temperature to high when engine is running, if temperature of the first egt input goes above warning light egt value warning light will light continuously (only when the condition remains valid).

  • ADC input higher or lower than value this function allows checking if sensor value over XX or below XX, all sampled ADC channels can be selected. To disable this function select "below" with adc value 0.00v. When condition is true it will light check engine light continuously (only when the condition remains valid).

Some warning light checks are only evaluated when engine rpm is above minimum rpm AND engine map is above minimum kpa:

  • Knock signaling when the advanced knock detection system detects a knock event and signaling of this condition is enabled, it will flash the check engine light fast (5Hz) for 1 second, every consecutive knock event extends this flash time by 1 additional second with a maximum of 5 seconds (length can be used to judge the severity of the amount of knock) if knock persists the check engine light will flash continuously (only when the condition remains valid).

  • Measured lean lambda when the measured lambda is leaner than desired lambda target by amount "lean threshold" this will light check engine light continuously (only when the condition remains valid). After a fuel cut, overrun or accel condition this is not evaluated for "skip time after fuel resume" seconds. This function is only active when wideband control is used.

Settings:

  • Light at cranking: Enables/disables Generic check engine light function

  • Minimum RPM: Minimum RPM for activation of functions (above) with rpm condition (both conditions need to be true for enable)

  • Minimum MAP: Minimum MAP value for activation of functions (above) with MAP condition (both conditions need to be true for enable)

Values:

  • Knock: Enables/disables Knock signaling

  • ADC Channel: Selection of ADC channel either internal or external for value evaluation

  • ADC Direction: Enable warning light if value above or below set value

  • ADC Value: Evaluation threshold voltage, to disable ADC warning light set "below", 0.00v.

  • EGT: EGT threshold for Exhaust gas temperature to high warning.

  • Coolant Temp: Coolant threshold for Engine overheated warning

Lambda:

  • Lean Threshold: Lean threshold for Measured lean lambda warning light function, to disable set a very high (max) allowed deviance

  • Skip time after fuel-resume: Skip time for Measured lean lambda warning light function

Trigger error:

  • Trigger Error: Enable/disable Trigger error detector warning light function

Output channel:

  • Enable/Channel name: Select output channel to assign to warning light function, choose output from Outputs / Assign output channels menu.
